Indian resume format: example and tips
In India both “resume” and “CV” are used. Recruiters, especially in IT and services, read many applications quickly, so a clear, skills-first layout works best.
At a glance
| What it is called | Resume or CV |
|---|---|
| Length | 1 page for freshers; 2 pages with experience |
| Paper size | A4 |
| Photo | Not needed for most private-sector jobs |
| Personal details | Name, city, phone (+91), email and LinkedIn. Father’s name, date of birth, religion and marital status are outdated: leave them out. |

Local tips
- Freshers: put education first with your CGPA or percentage, then projects and internships.
- Skip the old “Declaration: I hereby declare…” line. It takes space and adds nothing.
- Mention your notice period and current location: recruiters ask for both.
- Large employers and job portals use applicant tracking systems, so match your keywords to each job post.
Is this format ATS-friendly?
Yes. Whatever the country, keep one column, real text and standard headings. Every CV made with Seerty is built this way, so you can follow local customs without confusing applicant tracking systems.
Customs change between employers and industries. When a job post asks for something specific, follow the job post.
